The GDI F.A.Q.

Nice name, but what the heck does "GDI" stand for?
It stands for "Gosh Darn Individuals." Lisa's mother unwittingly coined the phrase (in reference to Katie and Lisa), which is, appropriately enough, a parody of the phrase "goddamn independents," which is used to refer to college students who do not join a fraternity or sorority. The name stuck.
Who's in it?
Us! To put it alphabetically, Keith and Lindsay Addison, Claire and Megan Grimm, Katie Herder, and Lisa Royan For more information on who we are, click here.
And from what strange land does GDI hail?
Why, Naples, Florida on the Gulf of Mexico, of course! Well, originally...now we've dispersed. We could be anywhere. Scary, huh?
You said you make humorous movies that tend to be parodies. What have you parodied?
Oh, a lot of stuff. A list might include numerous TV commercials, fashion shows, local news broadcasts, Superman, horror movies, The Hound of the Baskervilles, Publishers' Clearing House sweepstakes, Star Trek, music videos, The Scarlet Letter, the last paragraph of A Tale of Two Cities (twice), political debates, Titanic, Jekyll and Hyde, hippies, Les Misérables, soap operas, Casablanca, and more. There's something for everyone!
Do did you get extra credit in school?
No! We never have, but that is the one question everyone, almost without exception, asks us.
Then have you ever won any awards for your videos?
Strangely enough, yes. In the spring of 1999, the short Jekyll and Hyde (With a Vacuum Cleaner) segment from the GDI Guide to the Classics was entered in the first annual Stetson University film festival and came in third, behind two videos titled "Redemptions" and "Precious." We think our title is better.
How did this group get started? What are your movies like?
The short answer to the first question is, it sort of evolved. If you want an better answer, your best bet is to read A Brief History of GDI. If you want an answer to the second question, you should go to the productions page and look around--there are pictures, sounds, scripts, and other goodies.
What goes into making one of your movies?
Well, some, such as our "John Paul and the Brain Surgeons" send-ups of music videos, are improvised; others are the result of considerably more planning--writing a full-blown script, making prop lists, costumes, figuring out a shooting schedule (at a time when everyone is available--yikes!), and so forth. A sappy college entrance essay that was written by Lindsay--you know the deal: write about yourself, feel cheesy afterwards--addresses the subject.
Have you got anything else to say?
Yes! Some of the things you may see parodied (Star Trek, for example) on these pages are copyrighted to other people. Everything else, all original ideas, scripts, photographs, sounds, and so forth belong to GDI Productions, meaning us, or specifically to the people to whom they are credited. Please respect our creative efforts. Any rights concerning our movies which we may have, we reserve. Thank you and enjoy your visit!
