We have Keith to thank for this. During the filming of Star Trek: The Undiscovered Episode, he remarked that the team of scientists at the space station were dressed in such a way (white lab coats for everyone!) that they looked liked a band that would have to be called "John Paul and the Brain Surgeons" (of course the Pope was wandering around in the background).
