Schmaltz
After seeing the obligatory cheezy clips-set-to-music collage made for the Olympics, Lindsay got the idea to take clips from GDI movies and set them to a song. The first "schmaltz"--as it came to be known--included material from almost every movie that had been made up to that point (the second John Paul video and the Guide to the Classics were still yet to come at that point) and was set to the cliche song "This is the Moment." You can see why it came to be called schmaltz. The really cool thing about the video was the timing of the clips with the music--Lisa (as Super Blond) walks into the camera just as cymbals crash, etc. Prior to hooking up the two VCRs used to cobble the clips together, there had been a list of the times of each line in the song and a corresponding clip selected to go with them, but the editing was crude, so such a neat result hadn't been expected. Megan and Claire got in on the act, and selected appropriate songs and clips and made schmaltz for themselves. Eventually, everyone will have their own.
Credits:
Us, in lots of different roles over the years.
The Songs:
"This is the Moment" - general, featuring some favorite GDI clips
"Dangerous" - featuring Megan, who usually plays someone who beats up on the rest of the cast, hence the song selection
"Free" - featuring Claire, because the song just went well with the Claire clips
Highlights:
- the timing, when it worked, of the music and lyrics and clips
- Megan being "dangerous" and attacking everyone, especially Lindsay
- Claire pretending to strangle on a scarf as the music swells dramatically
- Keith, as an insane weatherman, tearing up the weather map in slow-motion
