The mighty Potomic River whose might on this particular day came from its being a big runway for a bitterly cold north wind. We walked around Old Town Alexandria, looked in shops, bought chocolates, did some photography, and were pretty cold, even though the sun was out.
George Washington's townhouse--restored, I believe, to its historic appearance--where he stayed when he was in the city.
A stab at semi-artistic photography. I take baby steps in this area, but I like trying.
Typical Old Town: a big brick church. It's a great little district. Just walking around aimlessly and looking at the buildings is nice. There are even some streets with cobblestones, just for ambience.
Lisa taking pictures.
Lisa and me in front of the theater. We are really out of focus, but we're happy. The last time I saw it before the tour closed. I miss it. Which means when I do get to see it again, it will be all the better. After the show we ran around the mall, looked up at the Smithsonian by moonlight, saw mallards in front of the new Native American museum, and viewed the Vietnam Memorial. Actually, to be sober for a moment, this was a strange thing. I remembered being there as a little kid and thinking Dad's name was on the wall. Now I understand what it is, and even so, at night, under the moon, pacing off two hundred strides of names is a somber experience.
We also took a drive in the country and saw some buildings that were decaying in an aesthetically manner. And there was ice on some of the puddles. ~ |
