Because I wanted to look at Indiana University, and because we were both December graduates who hadn't lined up high-paying, high-profile, career-oriented jobs, Claire and I went to Bloomington, Indiana by way of Tennesse...and, sadly, Georgia. But we didn't just see Macon, Tifton ("a high-speed internet city"), Valdosta, Vidalia onion stands, Atlanta, Smarr, Butts County, Cordele, the Bible Outlet Store, and the giant peach water towers that make Georgia such a wonderful place to drive through as quickly as possible. We also saw Mammoth Cave; the Ocoee River, site of the Olympic white water competition in 1996; and real ice and snow that did not originate in the frozen foods section of the grocery store.

But perhaps the best part of the trip was that we visited Cleveland and Columbus without entering Ohio. Yes we stopped in Cleveland, Tennessee to see Katie, and although it's not home of a long-suffering professional baseball team or located on a freezing great lake, it's not bad, and it's conveniently located outside of Chatanooga.

Indiana, a state that was almost a rectangle and Tennessee, a long and skinny state.

And in Indiana we turned off I-65 at Columbus, the only distinguishing feature of which that we noted was a strange red arch straddling the interstate overpass at the exit.

Continue for disjointed commentary and pictures. And snow!
